AWS Bedrock Managed Knowledge Bases: Should We Use Them?

AWS released Managed Knowledge Bases for Amazon Bedrock on 17 June 2026. The feature significantly reduces the operational complexity of building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions by allowing Bedrock to manage the vector storage, indexing, embeddings, and retrieval infrastructure on your behalf. For teams looking to deliver an Agent Core proof of concept or their first production RAG workload quickly, this can be a compelling option. Codegarden 2026 - a little late, because it gave me something to build

A few weeks ago I was in Copenhagen for my first Codegarden, and one quiet thought has stuck with me since. It didn't come from a keynote. It came from the bit the keynote leaves out. I've worked with Umbraco for years, but I'd never been to Codegarden, and I turned up without much of a fixed idea of what the two days would be. I kept that open on purpose. I wanted to take it in rather than measure it against something I'd decided in advance. What struck me most was that the value came from two places at once. The sessions were a fantastic source of inspiration; everything from keynotes to guest speakers all seemed to resonate in some way or another. The conversations in between the sessions - drifting around the event space and finding common ground with anyone and everyone - proved just as valuable. I came home more energised than I've been in a while, with a notebook full of half-formed ideas and a better feel for the community I'm part of. But the thing I kept turning over afterwards was that bit the keynote leaves out. That's what I want to write about. The easy half and the hard half Every major Umbraco release gets the same treatment. A polished keynote, a clean demo, a feature that looks effortless on stage. There's plenty in 18, and which part matters most depends on what you're building. For me it's Elements: a new Library section where you manage reusable content and reference it through a new element picker. Create once, use everywhere. It's a genuinely good direction. Reusable content has lived awkwardly in the content tree for years, and Library finally gives it a proper home. What the demos don't show you is the part I've been playing around with for the past few weeks. Taking a real Umbraco 17 site, with content pickers threaded through block lists, block grids, rich text blocks and base document properties, and getting all of it to point at the new Library without an editor ever noticing anything moved underneath them. The feature is the easy half.

I am pissed off

I know the title was way bold or offensive but listen to me. I study in a convent school where some teachers are nuns and there's one nun teacher that seriously pisses me off cause she changed my main subject from computer to commerce without telling me and when I asked she said "It is for your well-being!" and I was literally feeling I should crash out right there about why does she cares about my options and well fare and I was so targeted by her that I had to involve the principal and other teachers. She did a frickin poll that we should let me have the computer or not which was her way to embarrass me still everyone voted for me. After I got my main subject as computer science back she tried to embarrass me in class saying "Some people play some random only games on PC/Laptops and think they are now coders and devs" but my classmates were at my side and said at her own face how many lines of code do u know? how many languages of computer do u know? Building a Fault-Tolerant File Storage over JPEG Images

TL;DR: The idea is to use a set of ordinary JPEG images as a distributed medium for an encrypted container. The data is split into redundant fragments and distributed across the images, allowing the container to be recovered even if some of the JPEG files are lost. We will not examine the code; instead, we will focus only on the general principle behind the approach. Where the idea came from Most steganographic systems follow a "one image — one file" model. If the image is lost or damaged, the embedded data is lost with it. The idea was to distribute the data container across multiple JPEG images while preserving the ability to recover the data even if some of those images are lost. I should point out right away that this is not steganography in the traditional sense. The additional data is written to JPEG images after the EOI ( End Of Image ) marker, where it can be easily detected by even the simplest analysis. The goal is not to completely hide the presence of the data, but to use ordinary JPEG images as a distributed medium for an encrypted container. At the same time, in everyday use the JPEG images remain fully functional, look like ordinary photographs, and do not attract attention. AdaBoost from Scratch: How a Pile of Dumb Rules Becomes a Smart Classifier

Here is a question that sounds like a trick: can you build an accurate classifier out of models that are barely better than flipping a coin? Surprisingly, yes. That is the whole idea behind boosting, and AdaBoost is the algorithm that made it famous. I built it from scratch and dropped it into an interactive demo — here's how it actually works, real math, no hand-waving. It is a decision tree with exactly one split. Look at one feature, compare it to one threshold, and call everything on one side "+1" and everything on the other side "−1". That's it. I finally understood cron expressions by building an explainer for them

For years I copied cron expressions off Stack Overflow, pasted them into a config file, crossed my fingers, and moved on. 0 9 * * 1-5 ? Sure, that "looks like weekday morning." */15 * * * * ? "Every 15 minutes, probably." I never actually read them. So I did the thing that always cures this for me: I built a tool that parses a cron expression, explains it in plain English, and shows the next five times it will fire. No library. About 50 lines of real logic. Here's everything I learned. The five fields (and the order that trips everyone up) A standard cron expression is exactly five fields separated by spaces: ┌──────── minute 0 - 59 │ ┌────── hour 0 - 23 │ │ ┌──── day - of - month 1 - 31 │ │ │ ┌── month 1 - 12 │ │ │ │ ┌ day - of - week 0 - 6 ( 0 = Sunday ) * * * * * The order never changes, and the number-one beginner mistake is swapping the first two. Minute comes first. If you write 9 30 * * * thinking "9:30am," you actually get "minute 9, hour 30" — which is invalid, because hours only go to 23. Say it out loud every time: minute, hour, day-of-month, month, day-of-week. Each field answers one question: which values of this unit does the job run on? An * means "every value." Tree of Thoughts was a genuine leap. Instead of reasoning in one straight line, it branches into several lines, scores them, prunes the dead ends, and searches for the best path — so a puzzle that would sink a single chain of thought becomes solvable. But a tree has one restriction baked right into its shape, and once you see it you can't unsee it: every node has exactly one parent. A branch can be extended or abandoned. It can never be combined with another branch. That matters more than it sounds. Real problems decompose, and when they do, different branches each get part of the answer right. Branch A nails the first half; branch B nails the second half; neither is fully correct on its own. A tree is forced to pick one and throw the other's good half away.
